Tanya & Erik's Wedding Day || Atlanta Wedding Photographer

Tanya & Erik will be forever in my heart! They are one of those couples that you look at and want to be just like them! We met several months before their wedding at an early morning in Piedmont Park for their engagement shoot, you can look at it here. I knew from the beginning Tanya and Erik knew what they wanted when we chatted about their wedding photography. I was excited to be their local photographer in their destination wedding. Specially because part of Tanya’s family are from Brazil and it was so nice speaking in Portuguese with her grandmother and some of her extended family that visited for the wedding. I loved to hear about some of their adventurous stories during our day at the park and watching their happiness on their big day! They are such an amazing couple, we were truly honored that we could capture their love story! Bellow is a little note shared by Tanya, I hope their love story inspires you today!

Earlier in our relationship, I wrote Erik a card with the quote “it’s wonderful to be loved, but it’s profound to be understood.”  Erik brought this up in a note to me on our wedding day, and he admitted that he didn't fully grasp the significance of that statement. The fact that he brought this up amazed me!  It was in a random card I wrote to him years ago (he actually keeps all of the cards I have ever written to him... and there are a lot).  He also told me that leading up to the wedding he obviously had been reflecting back on our friendship and relationship.  He tried to articulate to others, to me, and to himself why, exactly, we are so enamored with each other and what makes us a great match, which brought him to this quote.  We have understood, accepted, and loved each other since day one. We both recognize and celebrate all of the other's complexities and intricacies. Although both of us are so lucky to have never felt a deficit of love and support in our lives, the mutual understanding we have for one another makes our love is deeper. We have no obligation to love each other - I do not love Erik because he is my son, or brother, or nephew, etc.- I love him because of who he is as a person and because he understands and embraces all that I am as a person. I love him for his good and I work to understand and even love his not-so-good qualities, and somehow he adds up to be greater than the sum of all of his parts (despite those not-so-good qualities).  And trust me, I appreciate that he somehow understands all of my not-so-good qualities and still chooses to love me every day.  We had a lot of changes since our wedding day, and the first several months of marriage has brought its fair share of challenges to our little family.  But! We both work to understand the other's struggles, happiness, anger, joy, calmness, adversities, and reactions to the hectic world around us every day.  We strive to exude that same purity and fervor in our love that we tried to explain through our wedding ceremony and notes to each other on our wedding day for all the days of our life. -Tanya

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human.

I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, 'Yes.'

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments. - "The Invitation" by O. Mountain Dreamer (Read to Tanya & Erik on their wedding day by Tanya’s aunt.)
