Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?

We wanted our wedding to be very simple and pretty casual. We have a toddler, so making sure she could be incorporated and wouldn't feel like she couldn't touch anything was a big part of our wedding. We wanted lots of greenery and for things to look very natural. Since we chose our venue to be at a brewery, we knew that it would have a natural, open feel for people to bring their kids, be able to take their shoes off and have a good time. We are both pretty chill, casual people and so it fit right in with our personalities.

Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

Most of the decor was DIY, but there wasn't a lot of it! We saved wine bottles and got some from friends to be centerpieces at the tables, and my cousin Andrew, who did our flowers, picked gorgeous flowers to fill them out. It was all very simplistic. The reception venue already had walls painted and decor hung, as it was a brewery, so we just made sure the tables had some nice touches to them. We didn't want to over do it with the nature of the reception venue/space.

What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

My cousin, Andrew, did our flowers and I couldn't have loved them more. We wanted a lot of greenery, but he added pops of color,  which made for beautiful flowers. We had flowers on some of the pews in the church, a few vases on the stage at the church, and on every table at the reception venue. We had bridal bouquets, boutonnieres for the guys, and our flower girls had flower crowns. The flowers were a big part of our decorations, because we kept things simple. They pulled together all of the outfits and made our reception venue looks super nice!

What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?

Our favorite part of the wedding was definitely the dancing. We are close friends with our DJ and told him the vibe we wanted. He was amazing! Most of our friends and family stayed until the very end (including our 2 year old daughter who NEVER stopped dancing!)We also loved how comfortable it all felt. It was a space you could take your shoes off, relax, have a drink, and dance with your kid or friends. We wanted everyone to feel welcome!

How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

I (Lexi) do not like shopping at all, but when I went to Kelly's closet, Kelly was amazing - she helped me find the best fitting dress ever. I had no clue what style I wanted, but she brought me all different styles and we finally found one that was perfect! It was very detailed with beading so the rest of my outfit was very simple - flats, simple earrings, and a plain, long, veil. Kwam took his outfit and fashion to another level. I told him I thought it would be really cool if he could find a dark, forest green suit to match our flowers. In typical Kwam fashion, he wanted his whole outfit to be a big reveal, just like mine, so he never told me if he found the color suit. His suit was fitted, forest green, and of course topped off with some high top, forest green converse. He was very true to his own style and looked amazing. Later after the reception started, we changed into traditional Ghanaian attire for the dancing, as Kwam is Ghanaian. Myself, Kwam, and our daughter all wore deep purple outfits. My daughter and I had dresses made for us, while Kwam wore a traditional Ghanaian long sleeve shirt. It was great getting to dance to a traditional song with all of Kwam's family who were also wearing their traditional attire.

How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.

We were introduced through a mutual friend who I went to church with and Kwam works with. On our first date, he brought my daughter a toy, which I thought was very adorable and thoughtful. The date went as it would id you had a 1 year old with you on a first date - there were diaper explosions, chasing her down, snacks everywhere, but my friend ended up coming to take her home for bed. We grabbed dinner and totally clicked. After that, we kept hanging out and getting to know each other better. He proposed in October 2018 at my parents house. Their deck was filled with sunflowers, which are my favorite, and my daughter handed me a box as I walked out. He asked me to marry him and I said Yes! It was a family affair!

What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?

A really big moment for me was having our daughter walk down the aisle with my dad. It was really beautiful to see Kwam and his family totally welcome and love on her like she was their own. The father daughter dance they shared was also ADORABLE. Everyone was laughing, including both of them! It was also really special to get to change into the traditional outfits and dance with Kwam's family.

Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?

Remember that the end goal is to get married to the person you love. A lot gets thrown at you to distract you from that, things do not go to plan, but if you just go in with the mindset that getting married to who you love is the best part, then it makes the day a lot less stressful. Also, a planner did help organize all the things for us which was  a lifesaver!!
